We use the best sensing technologies, including radars, LiDARs, and cameras to “see” 360 degrees around the vehicle. The fusion-based perception system allows our self-driving trucks to track vehicles one mile (or 1600 meters) out.

  • Radars Radar sensors provide precise 3D object detection, along with velocity information on the detected object. An advantage of radar is that it works well in inclement weather conditions like rain or dense fog that can cause problems for camera and lidar sensors.
  • Lidars Lidar sensors use laser beams to precisely identify the position of obstacles around the vehicle, generating a large point cloud of 3D object detections around the vehicle. Lidar sensors provide very precise obstacle position information.
  • Cameras Cameras are well-suited for long-range perception. They are highly effective in identifying the type of obstacles present (e.g., bus, truck, traffic cone), and in determining semantic meaning of objects (e.g. lane markings, traffic lights, road signs).

Our localization and mapping algorithms accurately track the location of our self-driving trucks and update the map with the truck’s surroundings.

At PLUS we train and deploy a number of deep learning models to perform complex tasks such as accurately detecting and analyzing ground objects and road structures, and predicting the behavior of our trucks and surrounding vehicles.
